Description

This hike is best started at the Continental Divide Trailhead parking area within the Sapillo Campground. From the parking area, head out of the campground toward the highway. You'll cross a cattle guard and should see a two-track trail to the right with signs stating "no motorized vehicles." Turn onto this road and follow it to an old corral. Pass the corral and continue headed out on the doubletrack into a creek bed. Do not take the road that begins at the corral.

From here, simply follow the trail as it follows the base of the canyon and weaves across the creek bed in a gradual climb. Farther into the canyon, you are likely to encounter water. The water is generally pretty shallow but can become deeper following rain or snow.

Eventually, the doubletrack will simply end at a rock wall and you'll not be able to travel any farther. Turn around and enjoy a nice downhill hike back to the campground.
