Family Friendly
An easy out and back with views
Overview
This relatively easy but VERY scenic hike is located at the Keltic Lodge at the Highlands resort. This hike follows the point out to the end and provides spectacular views of both sides, a mix of birds, terrestrial and aquatic mammals. There are a few steep parts and at the end the rocks drop right to the ocean.
Description
Within Cape Breton, this was the first hike, I came across after entering the park. The trailhead is at the end of the road in Keltic Lodge at the Highlands Resort. This family-friendly trail does not have a lot of elevation gain as you hike out the peninsula. The signs say to watch out for bears and coyotes—I'm not sure where they would hide but, by all means, watch out for them.
The views to the north and south are spectacular with long shots of the open Atlantic and the waves crashing on the rocks. I imagine at times you could sit and watch birds, seals, and maybe whales all day as they move past. The trail is not smooth but it is a well maintained and well traveled trail. Take your time and enjoy the views!
Flora & Fauna
Wide variety of birds both terrestrial and aquatic. They say bears and coyotes, but I am not sure about that. Keep your eyes peeled for seals playing off the end in the surf.
