Family Friendly This is an easy hike for regulars and a challenging one for the beginner. The payoff is an amazing 360-degree view.

Overview

This is one of the most popular hikes within the Lake Perris SRA. It is often guided by the park system and local cities.

Need to Know

Entrance fees are required for parking in the state park. Walk-ins are free.

Description

The trail is well marked. There is parking directly in front of the trailhead as well as restrooms and a nice amphitheater for group gatherings. The trail is a little slippery in areas and steep occasionally.

Wind up the paved walkway to the amphitheater where you'll see the trail. Head north and then hook left across a gully. This will wind up and continue to a doubletrack. Make a left here and stick to the wider trail, which looks more like a service road. Behind you are amazing views of Lake Perris.

At about 2 miles, you reach the summit where you can continue forward down a much steeper section of trail to the Ya'i Heki' Indian Museum. Most people opt to return the way they came up.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of jackrabbits can be found here. Snakes are plentiful. Rattlesnakes are very common. There are also mule deer and coyotes.
