Description
Parking at the end of
Basin Road, follow
Perseverance Trail for just under a mile. Turn left at the sign for
Mt. Juneau Summit. The trail makes a very steep ascent almost straight up through the forest. It is steep and rigorous hiking but no scrambling is required.
Once in the alpine area above tree line, the trail makes some long switchbacks. There is some exposure, but it is mostly just a steep, short trail. Once you reach the summit, views on a sunny day extend to the Chilkats, Lemon Creek Glacier, the ice field, across the town, and down to Admiralty. Paths continue down the ridge for experienced hikers or you can go down the way you came.
Flora & Fauna
Mountain goats are almost guaranteed. Occasionally, black bears can also be seen in the alpine area.
