Overview
After some initial hard work climbing
Helm Creek Trail, enjoy a long day of flowing, meadow singletrack and evolving, beautiful views of the Garibaldi alpine meadows. The finale of the hike is the final climb/scramble to the summit of the aptly named Panorama Ridge.
Description
The trailhead is accessed via a ~30 minute drive on a forestry road from Highway 99. Small cars will have no problem, but look out for the pot holes!
Warm up along the easy, rolling trail from the trailhead toward Cheakamus Lake. Turn down a short switchback and cross a bridge above the lake outflow before starting a ~7 km climb to Helm Creek. The climb starts at its steepest and becomes more gentle as the distance rolls by.
From the campsite at Taylor Meadows, the trail continues to climb gradually on sensational flowing singletrack, and the views open up as the forest becomes a meadow. The subsequent ~5 km to the junction for the final climb to the top of Panorama Ridge are beautiful—enjoy!
Power hike the final 400 m of elevation to the summit and stand in awe of the 360-degree view of volcanos, glaciers, meadows and forest as far as you can see.
Return via the same route.
