Need to Know

The road to the trailhead known as Kaiser Pass Road is very rough and narrow. It is passable in smaller cars but I'd recommend one with more clearance. You'll also pass Mono Hot Springs, well worth a stop on the way out to have a soak in the hot springs.

Description

The trailhead for this hike is located behind the Vermillion Valley Resort. You want to continue past the resort to the trailhead parking which is free.

This trail climbs steadily through pine woodland and is easy to follow. There are two small stream crossings which in late summer are very manageable with numerous logs to hike on. There is also a great meadow about halfway that offers some spring wildflowers and open views. You'll approach the lake from the south side there are plenty of rocks and logs to sit and relax on; this a great spot for lunch or snacks. There is a primitive trail around the lake.

Return to the trailhead along the same route you took in.

Flora & Fauna

Mostly pine trees and chipmunks. This area is also known for deer and bears.

Easy hike until the last mile and a half. Not much in the way of scenery or vistas until you get to the lake. First half of trail is through burnt… 4.5mi — 1h 56m
