Description

I've done this trail many times in the summer and winter (with snow shoes). Branching off the Davis Creek Loop trail, you immediately cross a creek heading north, then the trail turns eastward and becomes steep and overgrown. Pop-can bottoms here (and in almost all other places, by the way) help you make sure you're on the right path as the trail becomes harder to follow.

Eventually you'll find two trees, each with a pop-can bottom, marking the right-turn you'll need to make to begin the first switchback that will take you to the south shoulder of the false peak, I believe called Midway Peak. Hike right between the two said trees. As you continue upward, the trail may disappear, leaving you to look for the next pop-can bottom or other form of tree-tag. If you don't see one, just follow your nose.

On the return, you sometimes have to look behind you to see the pop-can bottoms as they were placed to be visible for someone ascending, not descending the trail.

Plenty of room for tents at Hell Hole Camp.

A slimy waterfall that's probably more interesting in spring. Pizza-the-hut would feel right at home.

I always thought this was a fun section of the trail because it had you hiking/running over rocky slabs.
