Dogs Off-leash
Overview
The first leg of the Welsh 3000s route. This is the "alternative" route that starts at Pen-y-Pass and ascends Crib Goch first, before descending down into Nant Peris. There are three legs in total.
Need to Know
Parking at Pen-y-Pass fills up very early. If you're doing all three legs of the 3000s, you'll need to start very early anyway.
Description
The Welsh 3000s has three legs. This route covers the first one.
The traditional route starts on the top of Snowdon and descends Crib Goch. We started at Pen-y-Pass and ascended Crib Goch, to avoid the downscramble. This adds a bit of distance and some ascent.
The route to the top of Snowdon is obvious. The route down from Snowdon doesn't follow a real path—you hike next to the train tracks, then turn right over a stile at the end of a long wire fence, then pick your way down the gully.
