Easy wide sandy track through dappled shade and some sun, this trail loops one leg past the pond and then has an overlook at the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. There's an informational sign at the overlook but no railing, so keep a hand on your dogs and kiddos! You can take this loop out and back from the trailhead, or hop off on the Pond Trail Loop where they intersect. Trails and markers are color coded at John F. Burke, and the River Trail Loop is indicated with blue.

I've seen dragonflies, damselflies, and crickets, and I've heard cicadas and birds. The river and pond will have turtles and fish, and often egrets and killdeer. North Texas woods commonly host rabbits, snakes, raccoons, possums, foxes, deer, bobcats, and more, so keep a sharp eye out! The educational info onsite tells you more about what you may find!
