Need to Know
Tip: If you don't want to climb up nearly 200 stairs at the end of your hike, begin at the NW trailhead where
Trail 1 and
Trail 2 merge.
Description
Trail 2 in Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana is a moderate 2.4 mile trail. Begin the trail at the NW entrance, which will take you down nearly 200 stairs into the woods. This trail has some moderate ups and downs but is not too steep.
About a third of the way through the hike you'll reach the North Lookout Tower, which is a great place to stop for a break or a photo-op. About half-way through the hike you'll cross a park road to continue on to the trail. Over the course of this hike there are eight bridges, some wood, others stone, and some natural. Depending on the water levels and recent precipitation amounts, you may cross through a creek once or twice! We definitely got our feet wet (thank goodness for waterproof boots!). Additionally, there are approximately 270 steps on this trail.
Eventually, you'll wind back around to where you began near the back of the Abe Martin Lodge.
Flora & Fauna
We saw birds, a toad, chanterelle mushrooms, and ferns.
