Overview
This easy hike is perfect for an outing with young children or for those not in the mood for a vigorous outing. The trail is well-maintained throughout, with slightly rockier portions along as you're closer to the edge of the escarpment. The views along said portions are spectacular, with unobstructed vistas of the San Juan mountains and the Uncompahgre River valley to the south.
Description
This is a very easy hike suitable for small children. There are great views along the
Escarpment Trail accompanied by the possibility of wildlife sightings throughout. A small parking area is found at the trailhead; a larger parking area is available at the Log Hill Firehouse which you'll pass on your way into the development. Parts of the trail are bordered by private property which is well marked.
As the hike winds its way through a residential development, private property markers, and houses may occasionally be seen. Several paved road crossings will be necessary as well. As the trail turns northward away from the escarpment, it follows the border of a golf course, in and out of the nearby forest.
Flora & Fauna
Deer, elk, pine, scrub-oak, cactus.
