No official closure dates, but probably not easy to track during winter when snow covers the trail.

Need to Know

The trail is popular among mountain bikers, so stay alert.

Description

The trail starts at the major turn in the road up to Bláfjöll Ski Resort with a slight elevation gain but mostly downwards after the first kilometer.

The trail lies along the edge of a lava field, hence the name. Along the route you'll have a great view over Reykjanes Peninsula, Reykjavik, Kópavogur, Garðabær and Hafnafjörður. There is a segment where you might have a creek to pass, but it depends on the time of year.
