Description
Following this path from
Old Salem Turnpike Trail to
Deer Run Trail, you're going to look for the yellow blazes. There's a wooden bench nearby. Get ready! It's all downhill from here (but in a good way).
It becomes steep relatively quickly. The path here is narrow, probably not enough for two people to hike comfortably abreast. It is not overgrown, though, so just take your time and you can make it easily enough. There are switchbacks to break up the downhill, and eventually it curves down to some tall wooden steps embedded in the trail, and they are TALL steps, but there aren't many.
Finally, after all that, you'll be rewarded with a view of Palmer's Pond itself. Cross the wooden bridge and you'll arrive at
Deer Run Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Listen at Palmer's Pond for frogs and toads calling! In the right season, you'll certainly see dragonflies.
