Need to Know
If you are hiking with your dog, do note the trail in some areas is steep and exposed. My recommendation would be to keep them on the leash especially near the waterfall. In the lower section, they should be fine off the leash.
Description
Starting from the southern edge of Boyana, follow the stairs past the national park entrance sign. Then pick up the green-blazed trail that climbing steeply. This is one of the best marked trails I have seen in Bulgaria, but there are many cuts in order to avoid the switchbacks; however, I'd recommend to always try to stay on the trail.
The first 1.6km (1 mile) is by far the steepest section. All of the intersections are well marked and there are many opportunities in the lower half to turn off to Boyana Lake. At 2km, there is a great lookout over the city. As you continue up the trail, the first turnoff to the waterfall is well marked at 3km. Then there are two more turns above that for the system of trails that lead to the top and bottom of the falls. The trails are steep and often wet, so be aware.
From the falls, the trail climbs steeply again before crossing the trail to Kopito just before you arrive at the Momina Skala Chalet
