Need to Know

Brutal hiking in the desert! Season is late October to mid-April. Bring plenty of water, food and sunscreen. Long pants, long sleeved shirt and hat are almost mandatory.

Description

Once you drop into Martinez Canyon, when hiking the Cactus Spring Trail, you turn right in the creek bed and hike up canyon for about 1.3 miles. This will bring you to the Jack Miller cabin.

One should only attempt this extension if they have enough time and food and water, etc. Just completing the Cactus Spring Trail on its own is demanding enough! It would probably take a fit person to complete this extension to the cabin in about 30-40 minutes. Once at the cabin, allow for 30 minutes to look around and then you would have to descend back the way you came to get back to the trail junction. From there it is still approximately 9 miles down to your car at the end of Martinez Canyon!

See the Cactus Spring Trail description for the rest of your journey. This journey can be completed as it's own hike by using the Jack Millers Cabin Via Martinez Canyon description.

Flora & Fauna

Typical desert flora and fauna can be expected. You may see Bighorn Sheep up on the canyon slope if your lucky!
