Description
Savannah Trail starts and ends along
Rancho San Ysidro Trail. As an alternative trail to
Rancho San Ysidro Trail, Savannah Trail takes one to the western edge of the park. It is appropriately named Savannah Trail, as it is a wide open, unshaded trail through grasslands.
The starting point of Savannah Trail can be found at the 0.25 mile mark of
Rancho San Ysidro Trail. For the first 0.8 miles, Savannah Trail is flat as it runs through the grasslands. The trail then begins to descend gradually to cross New Creek on a sturdy bridge at the 1.4 mile mark. After crossing New Creek, Savannah Trail gradually climbs out of its creek valley, leveling off at about the 1.8 mile mark. Then at the 2.15 mile mark, the ONLY TREE along the trail is passed—a good place to stop and drink some water in the shade.
Creek valleys and grass hills are seen everywhere along Savannah Trail. Civilization in the form of picturesque, rural southern Santa Clara Valley is always visible to the northwest, west, and southwest.
After 2.4 miles, Savannah Trail ends at the 1.5 mile mark along
Rancho San Ysidro Trail.
