Description
This trail runs along the western foothills of the Coyote Canyon Ridge, starting from the
River Trailhead (just off State Route 32). The trail immediately ascends a few switchbacks to meet up with the Sheep Bones Trail and the Coyote Canyon Trail. From this trail junction, the
River Trail continues to the right, and right down from this junction you get some amazing views of the Wasatch Back and the Provo
River valley near Midway.
The trail contours in and out of several drainages, with a few minor climbs and descents, but is generally a pretty flat trail through the scrub oak and sage brush. During the fall, this trail can be gorgeous as it allows for views of all of the foothills of the Wasatch Back, which can be covered in crimson leaves if your timing is right.
A little over three miles in, the trail passes another trail junction—this time with
Chop'd Coyote that goes up and over the Coyote Canyon Ridge. Continue straight to keep on the
River Trail, and after a couple more miles the trail ends at a junction with the Coyote Canyon Trail.
