Description

A flat and relatively short trail with lots of canopy cover to make you feel as if you are deep in the woods. There is a decent amount of bird activity in this area, making for some fun wildlife sightings.

Flora & Fauna

At the beginning of the trail you'll hike through a tunnel of young Douglas Fir trees and shortly after this you'll find a small grove of Coastal Redwoods. The trail continues into the forest where the canopy cover of the Douglas Fir, Cedar, Big Leaf Maple, and Hemlock trees create shade. Along the way, you'll find the ground carpeted with sword fern and Salal. If you look closely, you may spot a Western Thatching Ant Hill; be sure to take a moment to watch them work. Halfway through the trail runs next to a small trickle of water, it is here you may find salamanders. However, please be careful because Stinging Nettle also likes damp roots. Take a close listen to the birds as Pacific wrens, ravens, and woodpeckers frequent this area.
