This shortcut shaves about 0.5 miles off of the larger loop.

Description

From Hannah's Creek Trail, watch for an obvious old road off to the north on the trail. From here, you wander uphill through some lovely, open forest for about 0.6 miles until the trail flattens out. From here, it rolls along for a short way through mixed hardwood forest until it ends at the Birkhead Mountain Trail. Along the way, there are some prominent rock outcroppings.
