This trail is for winter use only when snow covered.

Overview

This snow trail follows along 4-wheel-drive Steuart Road, leading from the town of St. Mary's to Loch Lomond. Accompanying Loch Lomond are five other alpine lakes of varying elevation—Lake Caroline, Reynolds Lake, Steuart Lake, Ohman Lake, and Ice Lake, which lies just below James Peak.

Need to Know

The lake can be very windy in the winter so come prepared to make the hike most enjoyable.

Description

Start by parking along the east side of Alice Road. The road is usually plowed, making the start of the hike easy to spot. Following the road is fairly straightforward when snowy as it's bordered by pine trees on the right and a gulch on the left. Pass through several road gates and continue ascending toward Loch Lomond.

After reaching the end of the trail, you can gain great views of Loch Lomond by continuing higher to any of its neighboring lakes.

Great skin in, peaceful in the trees but very windy at the lake, we were able to make some downhill turns just west of the lake back to the trail
