Description

The beginning starts on paved trail and then becomes a cinder trail as it passes the lava field, which is quite extensive and has a splatter cone with a small pine tree growing out of it. The trail comes to a fork and can be taken in either direction, but clockwise utilizes a more gradual uphill. The trail is well marked, smooth, and all cinder. There are some informational postings and viewpoints along the way. Continue onto the Lava Flow Trail to get some mileage and for a more intensive lava experience.
