Description
This trail can be accessed from the 16th Street Parking Lot at Lookout Mountain Preserve. This lot can fill up by sunrise. Street parking is available nearby, but pay attention to the signs. There is water at the trailhead. Be sure to take plenty on your hike, and turn back when half of your water is gone.
The trail starts out deceptively easy. Follow the Trail 150 signs. After you leave the
Lookout Mountain Circumference Trail #308, the trail begins to steepen and switchback as it works its way up the mountain.
At 0.4 miles, you arrive at a saddle, with great views of North Mountain and Shaw Butte. If steep rock makes you nervous, this is a good place to turn back. If you go on, take a sharp left and stay close to the ridge line. The trail becomes more faint, but you cannot get lost. Just be careful of the sharp drops.
At 0.5 miles, you arrive at the summit post, with spectacular 360-degree views, and very few people to spoil your panoramic photos.
