Description

The trailhead is currently not marked. There are a couple of entrances to the trail off of Marble Yard Road. This is a fun connector trail on a defunct Forest Service road. You'll maybe even find some lost marbles.

To get to these trails, come in from Irvine. The road from Clay City is steep and rutted with loose gravel. The road from Irvine (Rice Street) turns into Sweet Lick Road. Sweet Lick is narrow and not wide enough for two cars. This is a good place to slow down and take in the surroundings. Look for pull-offs to let other vehicles by.

Getting up to the ridge, the pavement is very steep. Avoid this road in winter or check conditions before heading up. The ridge top is gravel. This is FR 227, better known as Marbleyard. Don’t forget to stop in Irvine to refuel after your adventure! They have some really great bars/restaurants, a couple of Dairy Freeze type places, and a few of the regular watering holes.
