Description

The trail can be accessed from the South Loop Trail. To get to the start of the trail from the parking area, carefully cross the road and take South Loop Trail north a short distance. The Shepherd Nature Trail soon connects heading off to the left.

The trail lies on land formerly owned by the Shepherd family from back in the 1700's. Along the entire trail, there are informative signs that explain the area's history and ecology. Much of the trail passes through mature, mixed-hardwood forest, and many of the trees are identified by markers.
