Do not enter the slot canyon if there is a chance of rain in the forecast.

Description

This trail begins at the China Ranch, an active date farm with a small gift shop and a place to sample a variety of dates and get a fresh date milkshake. The short hike begins through a thicket of vegetation, descends on the edge of the wash, passes by a flowing stream from the date farm, then heads through open desert with great geologic views of the area.

Near the river you'll follow an embankment that is a historic railroad bed. The trails are well established, but the signs are absent. Cross the railroad embankment, drop down and across the Amargosa River, and hike up the wash to the opening of slot canyon. As with any slot canyon, keep out if there is a chance of rain in the upper drainage.

There is a loop, Date Farm Loop, to the right as you return. Make the extra distance so you can enjoy the fresh date milkshake upon your return.

Flora & Fauna

Mostly rabbits and several birds in the thick brush. Signage at the China Ranch Date Farm has additional information on hazards and other cool places to check out during your stay. Oh yeah, there is a whole grove of date palms in this canyon,.
