During the winter, roads to this trail are not well cleared and may require a 4x4 to pass. During summer, make sure to wear plenty of bug spray and check for ticks when you are finished as they are plentiful (though the deer tick is rare here).
Description
Starting from the trailhead to
Pin Oak Trail, hike along the road surface of Pin Oak Lodge Road, and head up the hill until it levels out. Shortly after, you'll see a white fiberglass marker. Swing to the left to dip into the forest and begin your journey along the ridge, descending into the mixed-hardwood forest.
This trail weaves through the trees and gently descends as you get closer to the lake. Meet up with
Pin Oak Trail, hang a left, and you'll shortly see the lake again. After taking in the lake views (and if you are lucky the sights of one of the many waterfowl that make the lake a stop on their migration), climb back to the trailhead along a somewhat steeper grade!
