Description

To access the Javelina Wash Trail, take North Kinney Road to the visitor center and park anywhere in the lot. As you approach the visitor center, the trail departs from the right side of the visitor center. The trail follows a short paved path as it makes its way among the plants and cacti that call the desert home.

The trail enters the wash and becomes sand and gravel as it winds its way through the area. The ridge where the Hugh Norris Trail runs rises above you to the north, providing picturesque views during the day. Rocks mark where the trail meanders as you get views of Saguaro cacti, Ironwood trees, ocotillo, cholla, and other plants can be seen along the trail. After making your way through the wash, the trail climbs some stairs back up to the parking lot. From here, additional signs provide information on the plants and animals found in the park.

This short, interpretive trail provides a nice introduction to the desert and gets you ready for bigger adventures that await you.
