Description

The North Wilderness Trail is a 2.2-mile red-blazed singletrack trail that begins and ends on the LSHT - Section 1 (Wilderness) trail. You can access it 0.5 miles from the Lone Star Hiking Trail parking area #2 or 0.7 miles from Lone Star Hiking Trail parking area #3. If hiking the Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) you could use this trail as a shortcut to save you two miles. The best use of this trail is to form a loop in the Little Lake Creek Wilderness area of Sam Houston National Forest.

About 0.75 mile of this trail are in a designated wilderness area (the Little Lake Creek Wilderness) that is very densely forested. The remaining quarter of the trail is between the LSHT - Section 1 (Wilderness) and NF 231 which is closed to cars and passes through tall pines with little underbrush. The trail is fairly flat aside from three creek tributary crossings. These are steep drops into ditches that are 5-10 feet deep. If there is water flowing, crossing these could be a little difficult if you plan to keep your feet dry.

I wasn't expecting it, but the North Wilderness Loop is full of amazing sections of singletrack. Some areas are overgrown and require slowing down or charging through, but overall it's a great experience.
