Description

This loop trail combines the White Rock - Shores Lake Trail West #2000D and the White Rock - Shores Lake trail East #2000C. The trails forms a loops that extends off the Ozark Highlands Trail that can be used to link the White Rock Mountain Recreation Area, and the Shores Lake Recreation Area. Hiking the loop clockwise is recommended as the preferred route.

This trail starts as White Rock - Shores Lake Trail West #2000D from the Ozark Highlands Trail - Dockerys Gap to White Rock, just southwest of the White Rock Mountain Recreation Area. The trail begins by descending a steep slope and levels out once it reaches the White Rock Creek. From there the trail is mostly level as it winds along the creek (even crossing it a couple times). There are several waterfalls along this trail which make for enjoyable rest spots.

Around 3.5 miles, the trail turns southeast and beings following along the edge of the larger valley that houses Hurricane Creek. Once the trail reaches Shores Lake Recreation Area, around 4.3 miles in, it becomes White Rock - Shores Lake Trail East #2000C. At this point you could choose to head into the recreation area for a break.

Otherwise, continue on the trail as it bends north and contours the side of the valley above Salt Fork Creek. The trail crosses several tributary drainages as it slowly climbs back to the Ozark Highlands Trail - Dockerys Gap to White Rock.

Camping along the trail is permitted and there are semi-primitive and cabins are available nearby at White Rock.

The east end of the trail map is wrong. I will have to submit a change next time I hike it. I ran out of batteries or I would have done it this time.
