Description

The Deer Meadow Trail is a peaceful trail away from the crowds of Rancho San Antonio OSP. To get to the trail, take the RSA Bike Path past the tennis courts to where the Deer Meadow Trail breaks off to the right. The trail starts along a service road that crosses a bridge over Permanente Creek. After crossing over the bridge, the road continues straight but the trail breaks off to the left and turns into a dirt path that maybe two people can hike along side by side.

Deer Meadow Trail follows the tree line as it makes its way around a meadow on the right. The large trees provide shade during the day, offering relief from the sun. The meadow on the right hand side of the trail, is usually a good place to spot grazing deer in the morning and the evening, and wild turkeys have been seen feeding here as well.

As you continue along the path, there are homes on the other side of the boundary line of the preserve, both to the left and the right. As you approach I-280 and the sound of traffic, the trail cuts back to the right and you end up at the road that you departed earlier. From here, you can follow the road back to the bridge, making a lollipop loop, or you can retrace your steps back to the start of the trail. While you'll encounter people on this trail, there aren't as many as compared to other parts of the preserve.

Flora & Fauna

Deer and turkey can be seen feeding in the fields in the morning and the evening toward dusk.
