This trail is open all year. On the rare occasions when it does snow, access to the Dagelma or French Gulch Trailheads may be difficult. There is poison oak along the trail at all times of the year, and ticks may be present during the warmer months. The road is paved to the trailheads, but there are no amenities and no potable water.

Description

The Viewpoint Trail #970A begins just south of Latgawa Cove Campground at an unsigned junction with the Payette Trail #970. It offers panoramic views of Applegate Lake and the surrounding mountains. #970A can be accessed from either the Dagelma or French Gulch Trailheads. From the Dagelma Trailhead, take the Calsh Trail #971 to its junction with the #970A. From French Gulch Trailhead, follow the Payette Trail #970 south for 0.9 miles, passing Latgawa Cove campground, to the junction of the #970A and the #971.
