Description
The white-diamond blazed Spur Trail starts from the aptly named Sunset Overlook, which is the first overlook you come to as you drive up the mountain. Starting from the north side of the overlook just to the right of an information sign, the trail starts making its way up and switchbacks to the right. The trail then continues along the contours until intersecting the Mountain Ridge Trail at a rock staircase. Taking a right onto the Mountain Ridge Trail will bring you to the Sunrise Overlook. Taking a left onto the Mountain Ridge Trail will lead you up to the Jefferson Overlook. This is a great starting point for a hike at Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. It is not as frequently used as the trails at the top of Mt. Jefferson, so it tends to have a lot more leaves on the trail in the fall than the summit trails. Be sure to be friendly out there!
