A Motor Vehicle Permit (Free for Butler County Residents) is required to park. The park is open from 8am to dark.
Description
Park at the trailhead for the
Highlands Trail, hike about 0.1 mile to the trail intersection (visible mown grass), take a right, and then finally another right at the intersection of the Ridge and Foothills Trail. The first half mile or so borders the park, so in winter you have a pretty clear view of it all. In summer, you get the feeling that you are totally removed from the scene with the exception of the happy noise of kids playing. The last half mile or so borders the
Meadow Trail, so at that point you are totally isolated from everyone except your fellow hikers and the occasional horse (do watch for their "gifts"). Connect to the
Meadow Trail, or turn back the way you came and call it a day!
Flora & Fauna
Mixed hardwoods, deer, fox, rabbit, and birds of several varieties including robin, woodpeckers and red wing blackbird can be found here.
