Overview
This is an easy hike that will allow you to easily explore the beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
Description
Starting from the Ajo Scenic Loop, various short trails allow you to easily explore the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. The Scenic Loop is a dirt road, while the connecting/side trails are BLM roads and rocky foot trails.
This easy trail allows you to experience the typical lush landscapes and cactus variety of the Sonoran Desert—especially in spring, you'll find lots of wildflowers and blooming cacti along the trail. The topography is rugged and is dotted with reddish-brown mountains.
The trail crosses through various dry washes and there are various abandoned mine shafts along the trail (be mindful that not all are fenced off so stay on the trail!).
Flora & Fauna
Lots of cacti (Organ Pipe, Saguaro, Barrel, Hedgehog) and other desert plants. Deer and coyotes at dawn/dusk. You may also occasionally encounter a bobcat.
