Some climbers will use ropes in some sections. If you are not comfortable scrambling without ropes, it is not recommended to hike the upper portion of this trail.
Description
The trail begins at the Rebouças Shelter; from there, the view of the peak is stunning. The mountain is high and steep and entirely rocky with ridges running from top to bottom resembling needles. While from this vantage point you cannot imagine a way to reach the top, there are in fact several approaches.
This route follows a trail that forks several times in the middle. The trail passes through low vegetation and soon climbs to more rocky terrain. You'll be climbing between the numerous rocks and up rock ramps. From this point, the path becomes very rocky. Some sections require either careful scrambling or the use of rope and other climbing equipment to reach the summit.
From the top of the Agulhas Negras, there are incredible panoramic views of the region including views of the Vale do Paraíba and the peak of the Prateleiras e Planalto Mineiro. On the ridge, there is a crack that separates a rock with a book box to sign. In order to access it, there is a wall of approximately 6 meters that you must descend and climb up the other side to reach the crack.
To return, follow the same path down, taking care on the steep and rocky descents.
