Overview

This short out-and-back hike is a popular route up to Iron Bog Lake that's full of striking mountain views. The steepest section of trail is at the start, but the climb pretty much continues steadily until you reach the lake.

Description

The start of the hike is located near the Iron Bog Campground and follows the Muldoon-Ironbog Trail (4065). The trail is nice and wide with a mix of dirt and rock that will make you work at first as it climbs straight up the side of a hill. The grade backs off after the initial start, but you'll keep climbing all the way to reach the lake. Fishpole Lake and another smaller lake aren't too far to the southwest along the Upper Iron Bog Trail (4122) and make a good add on if you want a bit more mileage. When we visited late in the season, everything was frozen, so we could only find the first lake.
