The road to the southern trailhead is closed in winter, and a steep avalanche ridge means that snowshoes are discouraged.
Description
Starting at the southern trailhead, the trail heads north through the high desert before dipping into the lush pine/fir forests. The trail generally descends with one or two short and mild climbs. The trail has two small stream crossings which are generally where you'll find the climbs as well. After May, these streams are pretty easily jumped across. This trail offers wonderful views of Rock Creek Canyon from start to finish.
