Dogs Leashed
Description
This is the main Purple Trail; however, there are a number of other trails in the area that are also purple, including an
Inner Purple Trail that cuts to the rugby pitch parking area and some connector trails. The trail starts/stops at the Running Trails Center and stops/starts at the main ball fields parking area, both of which are on the Picnic Loop Road south of Memorial Dr.
The western edge of this trail follows the railroad tracks' service road/trail south from the Running Trails Center and cuts into the forest after a third of a mile. Once in the forest, it gets decidedly more interesting. The trail winds and bends quite a bit and encounters a number of ditch-like valleys that add a touch of vertical up and down. You'll pass the
Yellow Trail and
Orange Trail each a number of times before heading north past the
Blue Trail a number of times.
This is a sandy singletrack trail that is popular with hikers and bikers, so be prepared to step off to the side from time to time. The Purple Trail is considered "easy" by the park, which is presumably for biking, as all the trails are easy to hike.
Flora & Fauna
Mosquitoes are prevalent in this area, so you may want to bring bug spray.
