This trail is usually closed by snow from November to June.

Description

The Red Lake Trail #987 begins at the Pacific Crest Trail at a junction with the Badger Lake Trail #3759, then heads northwest to pass Island Lake and Red Lake. About a half mile past Red Lake, the trail turns sharply to the east to link back to, and end at, the Pacific Crest Trail. Note that its actual junction with the PCT is a little further north than shown on USGS and Forest Service maps. The Red Lake Trail is part of the old Oregon Skyline Trail, which was circumvented when the PCT was realigned further east. The #987 gives PCT and other hikers ready access to swimming, fishing, and camping opportunities at Island Lake and Red Lake.
