Description

The trail starts out by meandering through the open forest. The area is very pretty and gives an alpine feel even though the elevation is only 6,000-7,000 ft. There are some technical, rocky sections and short climbs on the way to Round Lake.

This lake will be on the right about two-thirds of the way along the trail. At about this point, the trail makes a steep and rocky climb to a high ridge. There are some sections to hike with loose rock and dirt.

The trail ends at the intersection of a jeep road that goes to Oakland Pond and Snake Lake. The Pacific Crest Trail also passes through this intersection. From here, you'll have great views of the Lakes Basin area, with Gold Lake down to the right, and Mt. Elwell to the left above Long Lake.
