Description

Hess is a wonderful, moderately rough singletrack, with varied features including rocks, small streams, some mud on a short section of doubletrack, and moderate climbs along with fun descents. It's marked by standard double-blazes but it could be missed. Hess is a great hike in either direction.

The Hess Trail starts at the trailhead parking area and is usually done to start the Clockwise Quebec Loop. You'll descend the steep section of the Hess Trail, which can be a wake up call because it is moderately steep and rough due to an abundance of small rocks. The junction with the Tebolt Trail is reached very quickly. From here the Hess Trail is mostly rough doubletrack and you'll find intersections with Whitetail Trail-Pine Knob Trail and Miller Trail further up the trail.

Most will turn left to continue on the Hess Trail as part of the Clockwise Quebec loop. This section is mountainous singletrack with a couple of small creek crossings and a few short, steep uphill sections. There are also several short stretches of fun downhill. At the terminus, you'll see Brocker Trail to your right and continue straight to stay on the Hess Trail.
