Starting from near the AMC Gate across Lake Road, the West River Trail meanders past numerous trail intersections in the forest along the East Branch Ausable River. Along the way, enjoy gorgeous hardwood forests speckled by dense patches of moss and coniferous trees.

After miles of enjoying this river scenery, the West River Trail eventually ends near the outlet of Lower Ausable Lake and a suite of gorgeous lake views. For those who really want to cap off their hike properly, follow the A.W. Weld Trail and Rainbow Falls Trail to reach the spectacular Rainbow Falls.
