Description

Small Intestines at Raccoon Mountain is EXACTLY what the name says. It's twisty, turny, and switchbacky fun. You can do it in either direction and it's fun either way. You can get to the trail either off of Switch Yard or Grindstone Ridge Trail.

From Switch Yard, hiking in a counter-clockwise direction will start you out on a downhill that brings you to a spectacular overlook within a mile. Take the time to go take pictures! (If hiking clockwise, this will be near the end of your hike and is a nice time to take a break.)

The rest of the trail is lots of switchbacks that either descend or ascend to follow the contour lines of the area. That's what make this trail so nice, as there are not really any big hard climbs, and the descents are fun and rolling. About midway from either direction there is a challenging rock garden to maneuver. All in all, a great trail!
