DuPont State Recreational Forest is a very popular multiuse, bi-directional trail system, so be on the lookout for hikers, horses, and bikers. It is normally open in any weather although it can close in extended periods of freeze / thaw during the winter.

Description

This trail features singletrack with several tight switchbacks and a small creek crossing. When you bottom out at the river, it is best to walk across on the large rocks placed for that purpose. Post river crossing, the trail climbs fairly gently to the crest of the ridge and then falls along the ridge into a small gorge. It then runs out along the river to one stream inlet of Lake Julia. Popular with mountain bikers, but not frequently traveled by hikers. The vast majority of the trail is clay-based, and can be slick with even the slightest bit of rain. Decent boots are a boon.

Pleasant hike, not difficult. Great picnic area by the lake if you pack in lunch.
