Description

This ridge trail runs north from near the peak of Mt. Lemmon past Samaniego Peak to Charouleau's Gap (USFS 736).

Reach the southern trailhead by starting on Meadow Trail and Mount Lemmon Trail #5 to Sutherland Trail for just a bit before starting Samaniego Ridge Trail. After Samaniego Peak, you'll encounter the “Corkscrew of Death”. The trail reaches a cliff, and the route around it corkscrews straight down the mountain, then regains the ridge via a scramble straight up a steep, sloping slab of rock. Good luck!

The trail was on the endangered list after the Aspen Fire of 2003, but has since been revived but is still in need of some trail love. Be prepared for overgrown grass and brush along with fallen trees.

Certain section can be difficult to follow, so a map and GPS and the Hiking Project mobile app are highly encouraged.
