Description

1N21 climbs from the Shelton Trail (small city/county trail network ) and the water tank at the end of Van Leuven to a wide doubletrack designated as 1N09 (City Creek). The surface is generally hardpack and features almost nothing technical. The two miles or so at the north end is quite scenic and nicely shaded. At its peak, the trail tops out at ~3200ft elevation, then descends to about 2600ft as you approach 1N09. The finale is a small creek crossing littered with shotgun shells.

At 1N09, you can turn left and head to CA330 for a paved descent back into Highland but it's not really worth it as the scenery isn't so interesting. Also, note that CA330 has no shoulder and a guardrail that crowds the edge of the road thus it isn't too safe. I recommend turning around and descending this trail.

Ultimately, this is a low traffic trail with an occasional user near the bottom. As it is a bit wide, its not the most interesting "trail", but the views are nice.

Great place to relax and cool off. Be sure to carry a bright colored scarf. You might find disrespectful gun owners, and you need to be seen. I had them shoot a gun shot at me from 300 yards. So be careful, and make yourself known

By the waters edge, even in August. Be careful of gun owners. Make yourself known to be there.

Didn't quite make it all the way to the road on the north end of the trail. We were running out of daylight. Trail was in good condition. 9.6mi — 3h 30m
