Description

When used in conjunction with connecting trails, the Big Lonely becomes a section of the greater Navajo Rocks Chaco Loop, an alternate route to the 7-Up Trail or part of the route joining the Navajo Rocks to Horsethief areas via the Chisholm Trail.

The trail itself is a short, mellow hike. Starting at its junction with the Big Mesa Trail, the trail quickly climbs up into the pinions mixed with slickrock patches. A huge expanse of slickrock on the north-facing slope is a fun distraction from the climb, just be mindful of the edge.

The trail across the slickrock here isn’t always slick - it’s rather rough. Once on top, the trail evens out a bit to and across UT313 and another half mile until it ends at the Coney Island Trail.
