Dogs Leashed
Description
From Inveroran and the junction with
West Highland Way 5: Tyndrum to Inveroran, the route follows a paved road for about a half-mile until the Victoria Bridge over the Avhainn Shira River which feeds Loch Tulla just to the east. Another segment of military road then takes you across the Rannoch Moor past the entrance to Glen Coe ski resort to King's House on the A82 (take care crossing the A82).
The Rannoch Moor is a desolate, grassy wilderness of heather surrounded by mountains. It would be quite boggy except the well-built military road has embedded cobblestones and rocks with great drainage that make for a relatively easy hike. Step off the path a few feet, and it can be quite a different story though.
You'll pass a couple of lochans as well as some bridges that surely date from the 18th century when the road was constructed.
The trail ends at King's House, which is one of the historical encampments used by the soldiers who constructed the road. The route continues as
West Highland Way 7: Kings House to Kinlochleven.
