A fairly quick and easy trail with some opportunity for fun rocky scrambles and a climb up the fire tower.
No camping or fires. Carry in, carry out all trash. Do not disturb plants, animals, or cultural features. Winter access is not guaranteed.
Description
The well blazed High Watch Trail, ascending Green Mountain's north side, is one of several routes to the fire tower at the mountain's summit. Leaving the small parking area by the Green Mountain Treatment Center, this wooded trail parallels the Center's boundary for the first portion of the trail, which is a fairly straightforward climb to the summit. The trail has a nice variety of both gentle and rocky terrain. Beware in some areas, as the pine needles can be slippery underfoot.
The observation deck of the fire tower is closed unless a forest ranger is in attendance, but views can be had from the tower below the observation deck.
There are picnic tables in a clearing at the summit. Varied activities include blueberry picking, hunting, and snowshoeing (in their respective seasons).
Flora & Fauna
The trail passes through a forest of beech, hemlock, maple, oak, and spruce.
