Description

The Sawyer Summit Trail starts at the high point of Sawyer Mountain Trail and gently climbs to the summit of Sawyer Mountain, passing one end of the Sherwood Libby Trail along the way.

The summit is marked with a stone monument that denotes the location of a whale oil lamp that was used as a point of navigation for ships sailing into Portland Harbor. Beyond the monument, the trail slowly descends through the forest until it approaches the Limington Scenic Overlook Trail where the descent becomes more aggressive.
